Children across the area have an excellent opportunity to be active and play with new playground equipment in the Mechanicsburg community of Bland County.

New playground equipment consisting of various slides and other activities was recently installed in the Mechanicsburg Community Park. Funding for the new equipment was provided by a grant from the Wythe-Bland Foundation. County maintenance staff and volunteers with parks and recreation and the Mechanicsburg Ruritan Club, constructed the equipment, along with the work crew from the New River Valley Regional Jail.

“The new playground equipment will provide a wonderful opportunity for young people to get outside and play,” stated Randy Johnson, Supervisor for the Mechanicsburg District. “Projects such as this playground would not take place if it was not for the outstanding support Bland County receives from the Wythe-Bland Foundation, parks and recreation volunteers, community support such as the Mechanicsburg Ruritan Club, and the outstanding assistance provided on projects from the New River Valley Regional Jail.”
