BLAND COUNTY FAIRGROUND FOOTBRIDGE IS REPAIRED
AUGUST 19, 2016
(Bland, Virginia) – The longstanding footbridge that connects the park in Bland to the county fairgrounds gets repaired.
The footbridge crossing Crab Orchard Creek has been in need of repair for several years. The footbridge is used extensively during events as visitors traverse from the park to the fairgrounds. Over time, the wooden planks and handrails had become rickety and unsound. The frame of the bridge was in great shape, it was the decking boards, stairs, and handrails that needed repair.
Visitors to the fairgrounds will notice that the bridge is now much sturdier and safer. County staff expressed gratitude to Virginia Steel and Fabricators, located in Bastian, for creating and donating the metal brackets that the bridge now utilizes. The brackets allow for the handrails to be much stronger compared to the older rails.
County staff performed the repairs during the week of August 15th through 19th. The New River Valley Regional Jail provided labor assistance with the project as well as repainted the bathrooms at the fairgrounds.
